DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID
DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) / AUS 32 / ADBLUE is an aqueous colourless urea solution. It converts harmful emissions from the diesel engine exhaust into Nitrogen & Water. Blue Middle East is the leading manufacturer of DEF in Dubai & UAE for more than a decade.
WHY DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID
Since 2005, it is mandatory for diesel vehicles complying to Euro 4, Euro 5 & Euro 6 series to be manufactured with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology
Reduction in NOx levels prevents various air pollution-related diseases and brings down the impact diesel engines have on the environment.
AUS 32 improves fuel efficiency of the vehicle by 2-5% under certain environment and driving conditions. Thus reducing pollution and enhancing performance.
DRIVE BLUE is the leading brand for DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID / ADBLUE.
It is used for all vehicles equipped with diesel engines and SCR technology
- Heavy Vehicles (Trucks & Buses)
- Passenger Vehicles (Cars, Vans)
- Construction Machinery
- Agricultural Machinery, Tractors, Marine Applications
Available for supply in United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is DEF?
Diesel exhaust fluid (Aqueous Urea Solution AUS 32) is a non-toxic, non-hazardous liquid used to reduce the air pollution generated by diesel engines. It is a clear chemical with a mixture of 32.5% of high quality urea and 67.5% of deionized water and is manufactured as per ISO 22241-1 standards.
How does DEF work?
When DEF is fed into the exhaust system, it reacts with the harmful nitrogen oxide gas(NOx) produced by the combustion process, neutralizing it down into harmless N2 and O2 using SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology thereby reducing emissions by 70-90%.
What vehicles need DEF?
It is used in commercial vehicles including heavy-duty trucks, buses and delivery trucks. It is also used in light-duty vehicles such as Passenger cars, minivans, pickup trucks complying with EUR 4,5,6 Diesel engine models associated with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology.
Usage & Storage
DEF is only applicable for diesel engines and must be filled separately in DEF filler tanks. It should never be mixed with fuel. DEF must be stored between -11C and 30C and has a shelf life of around 12 months in these conditions. Above 30C it starts to decompose, and freezes below -11, but retains its qualities when it thaws again.
What are the packaging options?
DEF is available with various packaging options including IBC Tanks, drums and individual cans based on volumetric requirements.
How much DEF do I need?
5 gallons of DEF will last for approximately 10K-15K miles. The range depends on driving conditions
Can I run my car without DEF?
All diesel vehicles meeting emission standard technology requires DEF. If you run out of DEF while driving, then the engine’s power and performance will be reduced and the vehicle will come to a rest. DEF alert messages will be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle.
Where can I purchase DEF?
DEF can be purchased at BME warehouses and distributors across the UAE. BME can also deliver DEF to the clients locations as required.
How long does AdBlue last?
The rate at which you use AdBlue depends on your engine and how economically you drive.
Typical consumption is around a litre of AdBlue every 600 miles. But it could be as high as a litre every 350 miles. Tank size varies too, so you could need to refill somewhere between 3,000 and 12,000 miles depending on the car and your driving style.
